2021: A YEAR OF TRANSITIONS AND TRANSFORMATION

Envisioning the future

2021 brought some relief and hope after a year of lockdown as more and more people around the world get vaccinated. Heather Derr-Smith has been working on her MSW (Master of Social Work) at the University of Iowa and taking courses in Nonprofit Management to better implement the mission and vision of Cuvaj se.

Adnan, our field director in Bihac, Bosnia continues to work for the Red Cross in migrant camps around Bihac canton as he finishes his graduate degree in English Literature with an emphasis on research and translation. Cuvaj se’s main focus at this time is supporting his work in the field and helping him grow in leadership at Cuvaj se in Bihac Canton. Heather Derr-Smith will be joining Adnan in Bihac in September 2021..

Tom Simpson continues to teach Human Rights, Genocide Studies, Ethics, and Existentialism at Philips Exeter Academy and has been busy supporting the work of actvists in Bosnia-Herzegovina as they combat genocide-denialism.  He’s looking forward to continuing to lead seminars for Cuvaj se in the fall and winter.

We welcome new Board members Mirela Kulovic and Lorenaa Grbavac to the Cuvaj se community. We are so excited to see where this year leads us!

We have several new ways to help support our work through donations at new shops. You can find cool vintage clothing, antiques, and artifacts from places where we work and from the poet’s closet at Etsy: Cuvaj Se

You can also purchase vintage clothing, designer clothing, and resale clothing at our shop at Ebay and Poshmark

All sales from these shops go directly to Cuvaj se, and right now directly into the pocket of Adnan Kurtagic to support his backbraking labor and fund supplies for his projects in the migrant camps around Bihac.
